Eleventh Annual Shakuhachi/Tai Chi Chuan Retreat

This retreat is held in Erongaricuaro, Mexico. This lovely village is in the province of Michoacan, and study with a local herbalist is also possible. There are also Spanish lessons available from a local teacher. We take over a large Hacienda known as El Molino. The Tai Chi Chuan Instructor is Maggie Newman, and the shakuhachi is Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin (Beginners accepted). People come from all over the USA. Kodo Drummers of Japan

Details:The members of this all-male, Japanese taiko drumming corps are masterful musicians and supreme athletes. Clad in sweatbands and loincloths, moving in stylized unison, KodoÕs Òdemon drummersÓ attack their instruments (the largest weighing 900 pounds) with a warrior intensity that preserves the primal power of traditional taiko drumming. Details:This intensive is for beginners (no experience necessary), and will consist of learning an entire Zen piece (HONKYOKU). Shakuhachi Saturday on the Subway (SSS)

Location: 42nd Street subway station under Bryant Park (F train)
Time: 10 AM to 12 PM
Fee: Entrance to Subway $2.00
Details: Bring your shakuhachi, music and a stand and join in at the first Shakuhachi Saturday on the subway. It will be an opportunity to meet others that share your interest in this great instrument. If you have never performed in public this is a great place to start.
